Tradition: Serbian National Folk Dance Ensemble ‘Kolo’

Serbian National Folk Dance Ensemble 'Kolo'

The beginning of this week marked the Orthodox New Year, which meant another round of celebrations in the region. Sunday was Orthodox New Year’s Eve, and the local government did right by the people by bringing in the famous Serbian National Folk Dance Ensemble ‘Kolo’. For over two hours, we were amazed and truly entertained as they danced, sang, and played a bevy of traditional anthems for the local crowd here in Herceg Novi, Montenegro.

And we did semi-right by you, by filming a portion of it. I say ‘semi-right’ because the minute-long video is downright terrible.

The good news is that we did some legwork for you. You can visit the official Kolo website right here, and you can check out much better videos on YouTube, here, here, and the best one here (embedded below). They tour the world as well, and we highly suggest you see them if they swing through your area. We’d go see them do their thing multiple times over.

Wonderful!!! While in Spain, perhaps you’ll get to see Ballet Folklorico!

Looks like fun! Was that at the place where they were, uh, reluctant to let us in on People’s Day (Town Day?); also where that concert was?

Haha yessir, that’s the one. It was really, really good. We’d definitely go see them again, and it’d be nice if they’d put out a CD.

I am totes hitting you up for tips when I head to Montenegro about the time you guys are leaving Seville. I pretty much chose that destination because you guys have free loaded tips from me for weeks. Kidding, of course! Once you’re here, I’ll take you to a sevillanas (flamenco lite) bar to see the regional dance in Seville. Olé!

Haha, it’s only fair! We’re 110% down to give you any info, tips, places to stay – whatever you need. We’ll have to talk more about that when we get there. And yes, we are certainly down to hit up a flamenco ‘lite’ bar. Thanks for stopping by!
